Description
Picosatellites are intended to fly into Low Earth Orbit (LEO), a 90-minute orbit around the Earth, the same region the shuttle flew. They are just a bit larger than a soda can and weight 1kg.Over 70 have been launched by universities and labs in the past, and over 30 are in the works.
Team Prometheus (Mar 9-Apr 9, 2011,"Team Prometheus N-Prize Mission") earns the honor of being the first picosatellite mission to use Kickstarter. They sought funds to complete their existing work to finally boost their satellite into orbit. They asked for $20,000, but only picked up $505.
