Summary
The Obama campaign has a new weapon in the money wars: the text message.
Description
Thursday morning, Obama for America said it’s now the first political campaign in history to accept small-dollar donations sent via text message. The campaign is urging its faithful to whip out their iPhones and Androids and text “GIVE” to the reelection effort’s short code. No more than $50 a billing cycle, please, said Obama campaign manager Jim Messina.
“Accepting small donations by text message will help us engage even more grassroots supporters who want to play a role by donating whatever they can afford to the campaign — and get the president re-elected in November,” Messina said.
