BUILD YOUR OWN FUNDRAISING PLATFORM
Build Your Own Crowd Funding Platform
• Use crowd sourcing to bring ideas and capital together.
• Enable transactions between funders and funding seekers. • Focus on building the app and let PayPal manage the backend.
Fundraising Gone Viral
Crowd-funding—that’s crowd-sourcing meets fundraising—is now possible with PayPal’s Adaptive Payments API. You can readily create fundraising marketplaces that tap into the wisdom of the crowd to identify worthy projects. You bring the parties together, PayPal handles the money flow behind the scenes. The possibilities are endless.
Support Delayed Disbursements
Using your marketplace, a single project can receive funds from multiple donors, and a single donor by making one payment can support multiple projects. You can delay disbursements until a specific threshold amount has been achieved. If the threshold amount is not met, you can quickly and easily issue refunds to all of the contributors. Otherwise, a simple disbursement makes the funds available in the project owner’s PayPal account.
Marketplace Payments Give Your Business Model Flexibility
PayPal’s chained payments let you implement a single API call to send a single payment to a primary recipient and from that party on to one or more secondary recipients. As the marketplace owner, you have the option to charge a percentage or a fixed-dollar amount for each transaction. You decide where to position yourself in the chained payment and how much to charge. The contributor only sees a single transaction, while the secondary recipients only see the payment from the primary recipient. You are only limited by the countries PayPal currently operates in (190 markets and regions, 24 currencies).

Setup Future Contributions with Preapprovals
As your marketplace grows with increased numbers of contributors and projects, you can implement preapproved payments. When a donor first makes a contribution, you have the option to ask them to set up an ongoing billing agreement. When the contributor next visits your marketplace, they click just once to approve another contribution, avoiding the necessity of visiting paypal.com.
Featured Applications
Hundreds of innovative applications have already been built using the Adaptive Payments API. Here are two examples that demonstrate the versatile uses. IndieGoGo IndieGoGo was founded on the principles of opportunity, transparency, choice, and action. They launched their site in 2008 with the goal to provide a platform where any idea—whether creative, cause or entrepreneurial-related—could obtain the tools and tap into a process to raise money, offer perks and yet still keep 100% ownership. People can share their projects, mobilize their fans and raise funds. IndieGoGo now supplies a variety of promotion and discovery tools for those seeking a way to collaborate and fund new projects. Everyone is paid using PayPal’s Adaptive Payments API. Appbacker Appbackr is a new breed of application. It is the first digital wholesale marketplace for iPhone and iPad applications. Appbacker applies a wholesale model to the common funding and distribution problems many iPhone and iPad application developers encounter. Appbacker makes it possible for developers to sell units of an app they built to interested buyers on the Appbackr marketplace. Even before the app is available on iTunes, developers can raise immediate funds to support continued app development. Wholesale buyers play a key role in promoting and distributing products. Appbackr tapped into PayPal’s Adaptive Payments API, enabling their members to focus on what they do best–create and market iTunes apps.
