How START.ac Is Adding Innovative Twists to Crowdfunding
By: Darryl Burma
Rod Turner made a big announcement today regarding the official launch of START.ac, an exciting and innovative new crowdfunding portal which is revolutionizing the way we raise funds. Turner, who happens to be the CEO of the company, also engaged in a live webcast earlier today (which I was fortunate enough to attend) for the sole purpose of announcing their launch and informing others how the company works and what it’s all about. In case you missed the webcast, well not to worry, you can click here to view the full recorded version.
How Is START.ac Different Than All the Other Funding Portals?
START.ac could very well be a real game changer in the crowdfunding industry and for many good reasons. For starters, as it states on the company’s FAQ page: We enhance the existing CrowdFunding model by extending it to include fundraising for new and existing businesses, technology products, social enterprises, and youth-driven projects all across the world. In other words, unlike Kickstarter for example, you can launch fundraising campaigns on START.ac no matter what part of the world you are from. That’s right, people from all across the globe can take advantage of this innovative new crowdfunding platform and this alone really makes the company stand out above the rest. That’s not all, oh heck we’re barely getting started! There are unique features galore, many of which are trademarked, at START.ac which you simply won’t find on any other crowdfunding intermediary website
(at least not at this time). You can learn about all of these features on their FAQ page and a lot of them were described during today’s highly informative webcast, but I’d like to touch on a few that really got my attention. CrowdAudition™ Here’s a really cool & unique concept. The CrowdAudition™ feature takes listing new campaigns to a whole new level. To put it simply, this is a pre-listing phase where people can take advantage of improving upon and receiving constructive feedback relating to their campaign before the official campaign itself launches. This gives campaign starters a better grasp on what (if anything) needs to be improved when it comes to perfecting their pitch and I believe it will also help increase the chances of overall campaign success. This kind of reminds me of a Vernon Law quote which goes like this: Experience is the worst teacher; it gives the test before presenting the lesson. When you think about it, in the majority of cases people put a tremendous amount of hard work into planning and establishing the best pitch possible (those who want to be successful bad enough). Sure we’ve heard about many crowdfunding success stories but as a whole the amount of campaigns that fail far exceed those that reach their goals. With this new model, it will greatly increase the number of successful campaigns and will also make START.ac one of the more appealing choices when it comes to choosing an intermediary. This is exactly the type of forward thinking the industry needs in order to really flourish.
Mentor Program Even the most experienced entrepreneurs could use a little mentoring and advice from time to time. This is especially true for entrepreneurs who are just starting out. Launching a new startup or expanding on an existing company can be quite an involved process. It involves a lot more than just having a great idea; it requires research, skills in many different areas and a well planned long and short term method of execution just to name a few things. This is what makes the START.ac Mentor Program so attractive because it’s a way for people to be educated in areas they may not understand or get a leg up in some areas that might have possibly been overlooked. These guys really do seem to have all the bases covered! Pay-It-Forward Fund™ This is my favorite feature of all. Assisting charities and organizations who need it the most and paying it forward is one of the most rewarding things any of us can do in this life and START.ac gives you the option to do just that. On top of receiving pledges to fund your own idea you can also donate 1% of the funds you raise to the Pay-It-Forward Fund™. In regards to the hundreds of funding portals that now exist this feature is exclusive to START.ac and really is quite unique. It likely has other intermediaries scratching their heads and thinking “Why didn’t we think of that?“. You might ask who and where exactly this money gets donated to and the answer is quite simple. All philanthropic organizations are determined by the members of the site themselves.
At the moment, a vote will take place once each quarter where YOU (the members) decide what specific charity or charities are most suitable or deserving of receiving the donations. This is not your typical model where people often have no clue where their donations really go, it’s 100% transparent, as clear as the light of day and puts the members in control. This is what the crowd should really be all about and part of what makes the whole experience that much more rewarding. Conclusion You can tell that a great deal of brainstorming, effort, energy, research and execution went into launching this company. It will be very exciting to follow the company’s further developments as well as the many entrepreneurial success stories that will soon come about from those who use their services. Believe it or not but this article barely even begins to explain the many great features and services they have to offer. They’ve certainly gained the Starting Trends seal of approval and if you want to learn more about this new industry mover & shaker then simply click the button below to head on over to their website.
