Summary
It’s not just young, Web-savvy jazz musicians who are hoping to use the crowdsourced funding website kickstarter.com to finance their recording projects.
Description
Veterans Roswell Rudd, 76 and the winner of the trombonist of the year award in the 2011 DownBeat critics’ poll, and Dr. Lonnie Smith, the turban-wearing organist who turns 70 this year, are reaching out for funding via Kickstarter.
Rudd is seeking to raise $20,000 towards the making of an album of standards to be titled Trombone For Lovers.
Smith is similarly seeking $20,000 in support of his next CD, a live recording to be made at the end of the month with Jeff Watts on drums, and a powerful horn section that includes tenor player John Ellis, among others.
