Let Loose on Dance Where You are Day and Support Seriously! A Movie About Play
Join a global play movement on September 18th (noon local time) and shake your bootie for the camera and for a more playful world.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 16, 2012 -- Award-winning creative director, filmmaker, and former Muppet-builder Gwen Gordon invites everyone to reclaim life as play, everywhere as a playground, and everybody as a playmate. How? Just by dancing wherever they are at noon on September 18th. This unique flash mob is a way to have a heckuvalotta fun while supporting Seriously! A Movie About Play. It’s also a contest! Think of it as a mashup: So You Think You Can Dance meets Dancing With The Stars meets the exuberant joy of bringing in the new year. Gordon, the film’s director/producer encourages participants to dance so irresistibly that other people can’t help but join in. Then catch the magic on video and send it to the judges. The dancer with the most inspiring video wins the grand prize: Their video will be in the film. The person who gets the most people to dance with them wins a DVD of the finished film and an autographed case of dill pickles, and the three most creative dancers win gold (colored) tiaras and ‘80’s disco ball pendants. What’s not to love? Judging the contest will be Seriously! director Gwen Gordon, award winning producer Andy Abrahams Wilson from Open Eye Pictures, PBS producer Josh Rosen from Spine Productions, and marketing executive Emily Aiken. Dance Where You Are Day isn’t just about winning great prizes and getting funny looks from people driving by. That’s just a bonus. It’s about the sheer joy of letting loose, building community, and reclaiming public space as a playground. And, like most forms of physical play, it also improves players’ mental, physical, and emotional health. As play scholar Brian Sutton-Smith wrote, “The opposite of play is not work, it’s depression.” Dance Where You Are Day is a serious antidepressant. Signing up is fast, easy, and free.
