The website homelesshotspots.org offers people to donate to the homeless cause remotely through PayPal. There was one broadcast of .Ru specifically dealing with issues of online charity and innovative ways of helping people donate.
The Kickstarter project has spawned similar services- for example, Fondomat, which Peter Lekarev have covered on .Ru. It’s kind of like Kickstarter, but for charities – so technically the target audience of the services does not overlap. In a kind of an iron attempt, Russian developers placed a bid on Kickstarter to create Kickstarter Russia. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. What happened was creation of other Russian projects, such as “Time to Start” or “S Miru Po Nitke (A thread from everyone in the world)”. While Kickstarter is alive and kicking, the Russian websites have all but faded to the oblivion.
