In the US, less than half of people who enroll in college graduate, and research from ACT has found that 3 of the top 5 reasons students drop out are social in nature. Engaged Campus, a San Antonio, TX start-up, has a solution - set colleges up with their own private and branded social network so that it's easier for their students to make friends, get involved, and have a stronger sense of belonging on campus.
To fund the idea, Engaged Campus founders Mandi and Michael Leman have launched an online campaign on Indiegogo. They are counting on community support to raise funds to get the private social network fully developed.
Indiegogo is a “crowdfunding” website where entrepreneurs can raise seed money for innovative ideas. Visitors to Indiegogo can contribute as little as $5 or up to $25,000 or more, and are rewarded with perks. Engaged Campus has set its goal at $15,000, the minimum needed to fund the development of the college social network. The campaign runs until Monday, October 1, 2012.
Founded in 2010, the industry website, Crowdsourcing.org, is a neutral organization dedicated solely
