A new report by Jeanne Pi and Professor Ethan Mollick of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania sheds more light on the shape of failure for Kickstarter projects. One key finding is that projects that succeed do so by a small margin: 25 percent of projects fund at 3 percent or less over their goal; 50 percent raise only 10 percent more than their goal.
