They say that you learn more from failure than from success, and that’s as true for Kickstarter as anything else. With the shiny, exciting and record-breaking projects getting most of the attention, it can be easy to forget that 56 percent of Kickstarter projects fail to reach their funding goal. A new report by Jeanne Pi and Professor Ethan Mollick of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania sheds more light on the shape of failure for Kickstarter projects. One key finding is that projects that succeed do so by a small margin: 25 percent of projects fund at 3 percent or less over their goal; 50 percent raise only 10 percent more than their goal.
