Website offers startups a way to pitch investors
By JASON CIPRIANI | SPECIAL TO THE CHIEFTAIN | Posted: Thursday, August 16, 2012 12:15 am Do you have an amazing business idea? Or a product idea you can't seem to get off the ground? Kickstarter.com can help. Kickstarter has turned many great ideas into multi-million dollar businesses — all by crowdsourcing the investment process. For example, the LunaTik product line — a watchband for the iPod Nano — originally started as an idea without any funding. It was posted and funded on Kickstarter and has developed into an extremely successful business. It was the first project on Kickstarter to hit the $1 million pledge mark. You can list a wide range of ideas and business ideas on Kickstarter so long as you have a reward to give those who are kind enough to give you some cash. The reward can be a discounted price on the end product, a mention on your website or even the chance to name a product. It's up to you. Just be creative and have fun with it. You'll be required to make a short video, pitching your idea to potential investors. Your idea doesn't even have to be for a business or a physical product. If you need help funding an event, want to publish a newspaper or maybe you want to make a short movie, you can use Kickstarter as a means to get the necessary funding. Not all of the projects on Kickstarter are successful. It will take some luck and great advertising, both through social media and the old fashioned word of mouth, but it's possible.
