Young entrepreneurs crowdsource entire restaurant

A group of young professionals with expertise in the communications and public relations field plan to open a restaurant in the REO Town district near downtown Lansing within 90 days, by tapping into the creativity of the local community and crowdsourcing every stage.
Restaurant opening its doors to crowdsourced ideas
Promoted by a 14 member group, REO Eats is planning to generate excitement and ideas through Facebook and Twitter to get people involved with the project. While the location for the restaurant has been finalized at the former Dalmatian’s Firehouse Grill, their aim is to crowdsource the entire restaurant project by getting input on the name, design, theme, menu, and pricing from the local crowd. The project’s website has incorporated the crowdsourcing software IdeaScale to enable visitors to submit their inputs as well as allow them to voice their opinion on other suggestions. “The cool thing about REO Eats is that the entire community gets to take ownership in the diner’s success,” Pat Gillespie an investor in the project said. “What we get in the end is not just one entrepreneur’s vision for a
diner, but the vision of hopefully hundreds of entrepreneurs who will have helped create a vibrant new space for the community.” Apart from the location of the project, the team behind REO Eats will be looking at the crowdsourced suggestions for further inspiration. Paul Jaques, a REO Eats team member admits they do not have any preconceived notions about what the restaurant will be like. According to him the team is looking for ideas entirely from the community. Surprisingly, no member of the REO Eats has any prior experience with a restaurant project, but that is no daunting factor for the inspired team. “We may not be restaurant people and I don’t think any of us really have the desire to be. However, what we know how to do is spread the word and get a crowd together and come up with some ideas,” quoted another team member Jennifer Middlin. Initial project cost is estimated at $122,500, with the cost of the Dalmatian’s Firehouse Grill premises expected to be around $47,500.00.
