2,800 crowdsourcing and crowdfunding sites
Australia's Freelancer.com has already been the largest platform to outsource work to its crowd of freelance professionals, and today it grew its user base by roughly another ten percent with the acquisition of Canada's Scriptlance for an undisclosed amount.
Scriptlance claims to be the largest crowdsourcing marketplace in Canada and the fifth-largest worldwide, with 360,000 enterprise and professional users. It's also one of the oldest, originally incorporating back in 2001 as R3N3 International by the then 20-year old Canadian technology entrepreneur René Trescases.
Scriptlance says it has users from 244 countries, regions and territories globally, well over 600,000 projects posted to date, and over US $43 million paid out to freelancers.
“We are tremendously excited to acquire Scriptlance, which is truly one of the great trailblazers and most widely recognised brands in the online outsourcing industry”, said Matt Barrie, Chief Executive of Freelancer.com, “Today we launch in Canada, and we couldn’t think of a better way to announce this than by buying one of Canada’s top technology websites.”
The acquisition of Scriptlance and its user base brings Freelancer.com to over 4 million users.
Freelancer.com's other acquisitions include GetAFreelancer (Sweden), LimeExchange (United States), Freelancer.co.uk (United Kingdom), Freelancer.de Booking Center (Germany), Freelancer.com.au (Australia) and Freelancer Hong Kong (China), together with the Freemarket.com virtual content marketplace (United States) and the Webmaster Talk (United States) forums.
