Last week, Spigit, a social innovation software company, announced its acquisition of Crowdcast for an undisclosed amount.

As part of the deal, Spigit will add Crowdcast’s patents to its own portfolio, and Crowdcast’s leadership team will join Spigit’s.

"Social Innovation 2.0 moves beyond idea capture and into execution,” Spigit founder and CEO Paul Pluschkell said in the press release announcing the acquisition. “With the Crowdcast team and technology, we add a critical piece of the innovation process – leveraging the crowd to determine the return on innovation."

It will be interesting to see when and how Spigit will integrate Crowdcast’s offerings into its own product lineup. Earlier this year, Crowdcast began working with Salesforce Chatter, and it also remains to be seen whether Spigit will continue that partnership or if it will look to replace Chatter with one of its own products.

Spigit is a social innovation software company that has over a thousand customers, including giants like Allstate, Citi, and Estee Lauder. It offers its customers two main products – the premium SpigitEngage and the freemium ICON. SpigitEngage integrates emergent social collaboration with traditional workflow and analytics. ICON, meanwhile, focuses exclusively on questions and answers, enabling its users to tap into their community to solve challenges.

Crowdcast is a crowd forecasting and prediction social business intelligence company that enables its customers to learn how much their employees understand about the future. Founded in 2007, the San Francisco-based company raised $6 million in Series A funding two years ago.
