Talk Open Innovation with Brightidea Wednesday

There's just a little more than a day left until our first Live Chat, a new interactive feature on Crowdsourcing.org. No downloads necessary, just visit our site and join in the conversation.

This Wednesday at 12pm PST / 3pm EST / 8:00 pm GMT we'll be co-hosting a conversation with Brightidea where we'll be delving deep into the world of Open Innovation.

Here's some thoughts from Brightidea on the role it plays in powering open innovation to help jump-start the conversation:

  • Companies are getting smarter about how they innovate. The rise of open innovation is a key indicator that companies realize that in order to stay competitive and fuel innovation, they must look outside for ideas on breakthrough technologies, to tap experts on-demand, and uncover customer needs and pain points.
  • There are varying definitions of open innovation. From a purest standpoint, open innovation means acquiring external technologies, i.e. the transfer of technology. Broadened definitions of open innovation expand to include really any initiative that involves going outside your company to tap customers, partners and the general public for ideas on everything from new products to breakthrough technologies.
  •  Brightidea has powered some of the largest, most successful open innovation campaigns and on-going open innovation programs for over a decade with companies like GE and Adobe. With proven methodologies, and advanced crowdsouring and ideation development tools, Brightidea software continues to provide real results to companies engaging in open innovation around the globe.

Nicholas Selk, Director of Professional Services at Brightidea, will be taking your questions during the live chat. He is an innovation expert that advises Fortune 2000 companies on managing the full innovation lifecycle, from securing buy-in to campaign topics through advanced development and implementation processes.

Here's a few of the topics Mr. Selk will be covering during the live chat:

  1. What is Open Innovation?
  2. When should a company consider an Open Innovation initiative and why?
  3. Why should companies engage their constituents in the Ideation process?
  4. What value does Open Innovation deliver?
  5. The Ideation life-cycle.

And of course, answers to your questions. You can leave questions you'd like Mr. Selk to address in the comments below, or feel free to email them to me at eric.mack@crowdsourcing.org.

Finally, don't forget to join us on Crowdsourcing.org at this Wednesday at 12pm PST / 3pm EST / 8:00 pm GMT. Visit here to add a reminder to your calendar.

    Hi Nicholas,

I´m a music industry professional keeping track very closely on open-innovation initiatives. I saw at your website´s case studies that you have worked with a wide range of industries, any from the creative/entertainment sector though. Do you think that elements such as content control and fear to plagiarism are more rooted here? Can you please give us an example of a music/film/book-related company or organization that uses open-innovation efficiently?

I work at a company in the financial sector in which there was about a year has been deployed the process of innovation management. Since then, we have developed processes and carried out some idea campaigns in order to capture ideas for innovation. However, once captured the ideas, we have had difficulties working these ideas in order to filter them and select the best. This possibly occurred due to lack of a specific methodology for the selection of ideas and also by the lack of tools to bear on this task. I wonder, what would we do to overcome these difficulties?
