Distributed Knowledge, Open InnovationUbiquitous sources of streaming information for both listening and broadcasting have changed the paradigm of how businesses receive, process and distribute information. As a result, managers and executives are no longer limiting their reach and simply looking at their captive audiences for ideas and innovation. The old adage “not invented here” never really worked, did it? Only those that embrace Procter & Gamble CEO, A.G. Lafley’s mantra, “proudly invented elsewhere” are more likely to survive and flourish.

Crowd Creativity, Crowdfunding
Social Media Week in Berlin (19-23 September 2011) will bring together jovoto, a creative crowdsourcing platform for collaborative idea generation together with Start Next, a crowdfunding platform for artists, designers and inventors to undertake a unique experiment to merge the power of creative crowdsourcing with the power of crowdfunding. Together jovoto and Start Next will kick-off a cross-platform initiative to crowdfund and then produce, works of art. The concept is; three weeks of proposals to identify artists, four weeks funding followed by two weeks of art.
They believe that everyone is an artist and that everyone has the ability to create art. jovoto and Start Next will help fund artists and then enable the distribution their work over the Internet so that they can reach the broadest possible audience. The development and implementation of creative ideas through the Internet is increasingly becoming a collaborative act. Creative crowdsourcing can involve the broadcast of a creative endeavor inviting creatives to provide individual works. Alternatively, art can be formed as a result of the collective participation of many artists. Artists like Aaron Koblin have demonstrated how it’s possible to create unique work by tapping into large communities of artists, often involving thousands of individuals. Crowdsourcing both provides the opportunity for new talent to be found and new forms of art to be created.

In another landmark win for the crowdsourcing industry and GeniusRocket, crowdsourced vídeo production proves it’s a very real threat to the traditional big agency model for TV advertising production. In less than three weeks from the first meeting to premiering during NBC's "Meet the Press" on July 17th, GeniusRocket delivered a high quality production for a third of the typical cost.
With a straightforward and emotional message, Jam Session is the first advertising campaign launched by The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare in more than a decade. It is a decisive action to save what they consider essential public programs as Congress debates dramatic spending cuts.
The National Committee selected GeniusRocket, the DC-based advertising firm, a Pioneer in the crowdsourcing space, in favor of competition from within the advertising industry. The National Committee were looking for an ad that would effectively broadcast their mission in a national television advertising campaign.
"We needed a process that could guarantee enough creative options for our ad without the high fees associated with a traditional ad agency," said Pamela Causey, Director of Communications for the National Committee.

After launching a new storytelling format “/answers” together with renowned documentary filmers and journalists, Siemens, a leader in electrical engineering, operating in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors, has decided to take a step forward and call filmmakers around world to tell histories of how technology is changing cities for the better.
To gather these stories, the German company is launching a video contest on Zooppa, the world’s leading source of user-generated advertising. Titled “Changing Your City for the Better,” the contest awards filmmakers who submit the most captivating short films that demonstrate how technological innovations improve urban life and create a better world.
“After launching our new storytelling format ‘/answers’ on siemens.com together with renowned documentary filmers and journalists in late February, crowdsourcing content for this magazine is the natural next step for us”, said Tobias Dennehy, Editor in Chief Corporate Communications at Siemens.
“After all: the web is no longer about broadcasting; it’s about listening and ‘joint-casting’. That’s exactly what we’re aiming for in our cooperation with zooppa: listen to the community, get new, surprising impulses for our digital corporate flagship magazine /answers around urban life in the 21st century,” he added.
