Olivier Guyon, an optical physicist, astronomer, and 2012 MacArthur fellow, wants to crowdsource planet hunting. The plan is to have amateur astronomers with a Cannon DSLR camera go out and take pictures of the night sky. Using specially crafted software, even DSLR pictures can identify the luminosity of some stars.
