Don't Fear the Crowdfunding Bogeyman
Crowdfunding

Up until this week, I was still telling friends and family about pending legislation to legalize crowdfunding for equity in the U.S. and describing it as "a very important bill that you've probably heard nothing about." That all changed this week as the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act that contains the means to legalize crowdfunding took centerstage and, along the way, became bogged down by what I can only generously refer to as typical inside the beltway bumbling.

A Look at the Proposed Amendments to the Crowdfunding Bill
Crowdfunding

Wednesday, the Senate cloture vote on H.R. 3606, better known as the JOBS Act, passed 76-22--the package will allow companies to offer securities to non-accredited investors via crowdfunding platforms. The JOBS Act passed the House by a 390-23 vote on March 8 and in a rare showing of bipartisan agreement on the economy during an election year. The Obama administration has expressed support for the JOBS Act, which the President intends to sign into law when the legislation reaches his desk.

Immediately after affirming the vote, Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Senator Scott P. Brown, (R-MA) and Jack Reed (D-RI) proposed two additional amendments.

Business Crowdfunding Made Simple [Infographic]
Crowdfunding

In honor of this historic moment, our friends at Crowdfunder developed this infographic exclusively for Crowdsourcing.org to help people understand how "Equity Crowdfunding" will work and try to clear up some of the confusion around the laws, the market and the process.

Mitt Romney's Crowd of Facebook Friends is Falling Apart
Tools

Both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney used social media, in particular Facebook, to try to rally their crowds of supporters to the polls and lure independents to their camp. But now that the election is over, those Facebook "Likes" are turning out to be some pretty fickle declarations of faith, at least in the case of Romney.

SEC Regulations Barricade The Crowdfunding Floodgates
Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is such a pervasive concept that today more than 175 crowdfunding sites exist online. Seemingly, a new crowdfunding site pops up every other day.
