I recently spoke to John Bernier from Best Buy, the discussion about Twelpforce as a highly innovative approach to real-time customer service to learn more about the opportunities for crowdsourcing customer service. More recently I interviewed Gioacchino La Vecchia, Chairman and CEO and a co-Founder of CrowdEngineering who, through his CrowdForce platform, is a forerunner in the development of enterprise-class Social CRM solutions. It would seem that international recognitions by industry analysts Gartner and Altimeter, who awarded the accolades of “cool vendor” and “the one to watch” in Social CRM, preceeding last week’s announcement that CrowdEngineering had closed a $4m Series A Round the crowd may have a big role to play in servicing itself!

Crowdfunding
In the Anglo-American world, crowdfunding is already established as an alternative form of fundraising. Yet in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, crowdfunding is also increasing its volume. A dozen crowdfunding platforms have been launched to cater to the needs of the German-speaking creative industry and technology start-ups. A survey created by Berlin-based ikosom, the Institute of Communication in Social Media, shows that crowdfunding has left its infant shoes behind.

document Crowd CreativityThe key to social business is to provide your brand's advocates the opportunity to own a piece of its messaging. That's also true for your crowdsourcing efforts. So simplify the process,...
Cloud Labor, Crowd CreativityCrowdsourcing is clearly not going away. Any company that believes it can operate with a closed-walls philosophy is missing the point of social business. The crowd, or groups external to the firm, provide interesting, sometimes path-breaking, sometimes huge numbers of ideas, insights and solutions. Crowdsourcing is part of the future of making and selling things. No question.
Still, there are a couple of questions niggling away at the back of my mind. There are more than two but these two beg an answer.
The first is how do we improve crowdsourcing? We know it's better than relying solely on internal resources for a variety of tasks, from routine to innovatory, but if crowdsourcing is to become a fixed operational resource, a part of the furniture so to speak, then we need to know how to measure and improve the process. That's akin to saying how do we professionalise it.
The second question is where does it lead us to? CNN recently announced it will upgrade its iReport crowdsourced news services. The end result will be a social network for news, a community that simultaneously creates, distributes and consumes news. This makes perfect sense. We are already blurring the line between production, marketing and consumption but we need to think where this is headed in other segments of the market.

CrowdfundingNew crowdfunding platforms are springing up like weeds — our database alone lists a whopping 344 crowdfunding platforms, a significant increase from the same time last year. Last night, we shined the spotlight on Fondomat, a newly launched Czech crowdfunding website — the first in the country, in fact.
Today we examine a more established platform: Kapipal, founded by IT consultant and Italian professor Alberto Falossi in 2009. A general crowdfunding platform for creative projects, charitable causes, events — anything, really — Kapipal allows for both public and private crowdfunding. We spoke with Falossi to learn more.

Open InnovationOver the past decade, Open Innovation has emerged as a leading business trend that has transformed the way enterprises approach all aspects of product development, from R&D through marketing and branding and even to post-sales support. By “opening the doors” to new ideas generated by others outside their own walls (including in many cases their customers!), companies have found new ways to leverage external knowledge to build better products.

CrowdfundingThis past Thursday, President Obama signed the JOBS Act, legalizing crowdfund investing in the United States. Although numerous people influenced the legislative process surrounding crowdfunding and JOBS Act, Sherwood Neiss and his fellow Startup Exemption co-founders were central figures in that process. The bill would not have passed — in fact, would not even exist — if not for the tireless efforts of these three individuals over the last 15 months. Neiss and his partners crafted the original crowdfund investing framework (which remains largely unchanged in the final JOBS Act), testified at two Congressional hearings surrounding access to capital for entrepreneurs, and lobbied vigorously on Capitol Hill for the ideal implementation and passage of a crowdfund investing bill. Eric Blattberg of Crowdsourcing.org recently spoke with Sherwood Neiss about all things JOBS Act: its conceptualization, the legislative process, its ultimate passage, its benefits and potential drawbacks, its media reception and much more.
