Socialbacking (www.socialbacking.com) sounds like it's going to be pretty strong - they have over 20,000 likes on Facebook already!.. looks like they're only a couple of weeks away from launch.
The three biggest platforms I know are KickStarter, RocketHub, and IndieGoGo. I believe IndieGoGo and RocketHub are the only global ones. The other platforms are really small, I would not waste my time risking putting yourself on one of those sites. I have heard some horror stories, stick to the big three.
I am researching to find alternatives to Kickstarter because they require those who wish to support your project to use Amazon checkout and have a credit card. So far besides what has already been mentioned, the other site I have come across is the multi-language site Goteo.com (but you have to reselect the language as you navigate the site - not good for usability).
Im looking forward for the Plebs start up up there in canada. Look like a mix of kickstarter and indiegogo. They don't have a launch date.

Hadn't heard of that one, thanks for the tip!!

Hi Howard. I'd suggest www.ipledg.com Then again, as one of the founders, I could be a tad biased:)
Enjoy!!

a new site (http://www.kreativthotz.com) is also a global alternative..
