An interesting video presentation presenting crowdsourcing as a model to problem solve through on-line communities. At the time this video was recorded, Daren C. Brabham Ph.D. had researched crowdsourcing over a period 2.5 years while completing his dissertation at the university of Utah. Daren describes crowdsourcing as a business model that leverages the power of on-line communities for a profit.
In this video Daren explains that the way crowdsourcing works is that a company has a problem it wants to solve and it broadcasts that problem through on-line communities to a ‘crowd”. The crowd vets the solutions, ways through them to find the best stuff and ranks the solutions. The best solutions receive an award while the company that owns the solutions makes a lot of money!
